Capacity selector
Dehumidifier size selector
Find a broad capacity range, then check temperature and the source of the moisture. This is selection guidance, not a building load calculation.

The result will explain a range and any temperature or moisture-source cautions.
How this selector works
The output uses ENERGY STAR’s portable selection chart. Under 2,000 square feet, its ranges are 20–30 pints/day for slight or moderate dampness, 25–40 for very damp spaces and 30–50 for wet or high-load conditions. Above 2,000 square feet the corresponding starting points are 30+, 40+ and 50+.
The source leaves exactly 2,000 square feet unspecified. We use its larger-space band at that boundary as a conservative convention and label the result. We do not invent a per-square-foot formula. The tool accepts areas up to 10,000 square feet for reference; a large or divided building needs a more specific assessment.
Below 65°F, ENERGY STAR recommends considering a product specified for lower temperatures. Above 89°F this selector prompts an additional manual check because at least one model in our comparison has an 89°F upper limit. Neither threshold is a universal appliance shutdown instruction.
If the room is usually below 50% RH without general dampness, the tool does not suggest a capacity. Localized wetness may have a different cause. Visible leaks, seepage or persistent wet materials should be investigated before treating a larger machine as the solution.
A “50+” result is open-ended. It does not establish that a 50-pint appliance is sufficient. Room temperature, air movement, moisture sources and the required drainage arrangement still need checking.
Next: plan drainage, compare documented models or read the full sizing guide.
